Sway Health was created through the collaboration of individuals with lived experience in bipolar disorder alongside leading psychiatrists in the field (including Dr. Ellen Frank, inventor of Interpersonal and Social Rhythms Therapy; and Dr. Samoon Ahmad, former Chief of Inpatient at Bellevue Hospital). Our mission is to transform bipolar care through combining specialized psychiatry, personalized psychoeducation, and evidence-based therapy.
We employ Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, or PNPs. We have selected the top 5% of PNPs from hundreds of interviews and put them through a rigorous training program that makes them specialists in bipolar disorder. They are well equipped to provide both medication management and skills-based psychotherapy in the same session.
We have created our own Sway Health care protocols alongside leading clinicians in bipolar disorder for both medication management and for psychotherapy.
Our 100-page medication management manual is based on 30+ years of experience of our Chief Medical Officer in treating bipolar disorder in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. This manual ensures that our clinicians follow the same, evidence-based playbook for medication management rather than the typical trial-and-error that happens outside of Sway Health.
Our 200-page psychotherapy manual blends evidence-based modalities including Interpersonal and Social Rhythms Therapy (IPSRT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), tailoring them towards skills helpful for bipolar disorder.
It is completely normal to have other mental health diagnoses aside from bipolar disorder affecting your life and not prohibitive to joining our program at all. Our clinicians have specialized training in treating co-morbidities with bipolar disorder.
